Ikkanbari is made by applying several layers of washi(Japanese paper) on the bamboo or wooden frame, or in wood or clay mold. And then, let it dry under shade. Need to keep repeating this process till it get shaped. This is the reason why it takes long time to make a product. At the final step of Ikkanbari process, Kakishibu lacquer(persimmon tannin) is applied to make the basket durable and water ressistant.
